Laser Micrometer Introduction: 

The Laser Micrometer is a non-contact gauging instrument for precise measurement of diameters of cylindrical objects. As there is no mechanical contact while gauging this instrument can be used for measuring compliant objects, items that are hot or radioactive, components that are under motion etc. In this instrument a scanning laser beam is used to measure the extent of the object . The laser used is a 635nm, 3mW laser diode module producing a circularized beam of guassian profile.

 

Principle of operation:

The laser beam emitted from the semi conductive laser (a) is deflected by the fast rotating octoangular prism (b). After passing the lens (d) the beam becomes a beam of parallel light  running through the measurment zone (gate). If the object to be measured (e) is located in the gate , it will block part of the parallel light . After the light is transmitted through the focussing lens (f) the blocked part will be transformed into a low level signal while the unblocked part will generate a high level signal on the photoelectric tube (g).

The outer diameter of the tested object in the light is than calculated from the scanning time.

 

 

Product Application:

The Laser Scanning Micrometer is suitable for plastic extrusion lines (electricity cable/wire, Telecom wire, filaments, catheter, tubing, pipe or profiles); for Enamel-insulated wire; and for the metal industry (hot and cold rolling, continuous casting, turning, grinding, polishing to QC inspection stations).
